Joy in Every Season

It's hard to believe it's March and winter is almost behind us! Personally, I enjoy winter but I do look forward to the change and difference in scenery that spring brings. Embracing what each season offers and jumping with both feet into the newness and uniqueness of each brings so much joy and appreciation. Whether it's the opportunity to put the lawn mower away for a number of months, and instead enjoy a weekend in the mountains with the family on skis, or put on the flip flops after hiding toes under wool for weeks, each new season brings fresh feelings and opportunities.

Recently, I have been pondering this thought: Without winter would we be as excited at the first signs of spring? Would witnessing the daffodils in their full sunny bloom or seeing the beautiful cherry blossoms fresh on the trees wow us the same way if we saw them in that state all year? Without fall would we marvel at the array of colors that paint the autumn landscape?  Would we look forward with anticipation at tilling the spring soil and planting the tiny garden seeds without the rest we've enjoyed through winter?  I'm grateful for the variety we have that includes seasons of rest, busyness, and unique beauty in each one.

Over the last few months I hope that you have had the chance to pause and reflect on the goodness that winter holds and look forward with joy and anticipation at what is ahead, on the horizon, or perhaps below that last little crust of snow. Wishing you all a wonderful and renewed start to spring.

With joy,

"See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone.  Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land." Song of Songs 2:11-12
